My father Ivan (Dixie) Dean from Peterborough served on HMS Slinger as a Petty Officer during her trip to Australia. I a have photo of her entering Sydney Harbour from his scrap book. My Mum had a photo of him standing in front of a fountain in Hyde Park Sydney. Years after his death I moved to Sydney and now work a short walk from the place where his photo was taken.

Served on board Slinger from August 1944 till January 46 as a member of the Radar Division.

Memories are fading,but still some vivid ones Doodlebugs in Woolwich, of DLTs up and down past Ailsa Craig, Steak, chips, salad 2 shillings and threepence on shore leave in Sydney {half a crown if you had an egg} and many more during a memorable time.

I never knew about the reunions at Chester, some lamp swinging went on I dare say!

If there is anyone still out there ex Radar an email will find me,

Kev Owens {ex A/B}

Just browsing out of curiosity when Aian Darby`s name came up,he was a messmate in the radar division,along with many others including Alan Kellet who if my memory serves me right was featured on the front page of the main newspaper in Brisbane announcing VE day.
Very interesting reading SLIONGER\'s history, I joined her in Woolwich in August 44 and left her in Greenock Jan 45. Went on to serve on HMS ESCAPADE and HMS HALCYON but these do not remain in the memory with the same affection as \"Slinger\"
Trusting you and yours are reasonably hale and hearty... considering the passage of time...

Kev Owens EX A/B, SLINGER.

My Father in Law Wilfred Carter (aka Mike) served onboard H.M.S Slinger during WWII.
Wilf came from Mersea island in Essex and set up a successful Electrical business on the island called Carters of Mersea.
Wilf sold the business and stayed on the island in retirement, his son carries on the electrical contracting part of the business to this day.
Wilfred Carter passed away in February 1999.

My dad, Arthur, (Spud) Morphy served on the Slinger from July 1944 until December 31st 1945. He was employed on general duties with the Torpedo Party. I have plenty of photos of his time there, during which he appeared to be very happy.

My Father served in the Slinger, Vic Dowson. He sadly passed away December 2007 but i would like to know more about his time on board. Do you have a crew manifest or where I could get hold of one? Do you have any more photographs of the crew particularly working maintenance?

My relative Alan Darby served on HMS Slinger as a Radar Operator during 1944-45 througout the Pacific campaign. He has been in contact with his good friend Alan Kellett.

Is there anybody else out there who would have served with Alan? He is still around, but doesn't have internet access.
