Refitting a Sump

Hi all me again!

I've had my block re-engineered and I'm putting it back together, so this question is for anyone else who has undertaken this work before.

My problem is that the front main bearing cap studs seem to foul the sump, preventing me from refitting it.

I guess the most likely thing is that I haven't wound the studs in far enough, but I thought I screwed them in as far as they would go on all the bearing caps.

Anybody else experience this problem?

Mick

Re: Refitting a Sump

Hi Mick,
As long as they are tight it shouldn't affect the sump. The front and back ones look very similar. Are you sure you have them the right way round?

Re: Refitting a Sump fixed

I found the problem.

The min bearing studs have a shouldered piece on one end which I assumed was the top. In fact the studs are inserted with this end embeded in the block. I turned them all up the correct way and the sump now fits down flush on the block.

Unfortunately the photos in my manual don't clearly show this.
