NG TCR V8 Inspection

Hi all,
Thanks for all the comments regarding the TCR V8,I did go and see it on Saturday nice chap the owner and a beautiful NG with some racing history.
He did let me have a go.
It took a while to master the close proximity of the pedals and the gears where very tight also the accelerater pedal was sticking a bit but the performance was blistering could hardly catch my breath over 80mph with those aero screens.
I wondered why the petrol gauge was not working and although I can appreciate that a V8 eats up the juice
it did make me wonder,to have owned a NG for 3 years and not fixed the gauge seemed a little odd.
As I had to drive 150 miles home if I'd made the purchase how would I get on guessing how much was in the tank.
So reluctantly I came away, but may be still interested.

I'd be interested to know how far a tank of petrol would have lasted doing a 150 mile road trip, can anyone give me guidence.
Thanks again
Rob.

Re: NG TCR V8 Inspection

Hi Rob
I get about 15-20 to the gallon out of mine, depending how much I want to listen to the growl!
I believe the NG tanks are 12 gallon, so realisticly 11 useable gallons, therefore you should get your 150 miles.
You could of course stop and buy more petrol on the way home?

Re: Re: NG TCR V8 Inspection

Hi Martin,
Yes that was one option, but there remained a few other points that I needed to question.Just wondering if I was taking on too much not being a mechanic I do have the rudiments but I'd need to have it maintained by a garage that knew what it was doing, costly yes,but necessary.
I've read back through the forum at some of the breakdowns and realistically don't think I could tackle some of the mechanics involved.
However this dosen't deter me from owning a TC,I just want to find out more about them,by the way should the blower be kept on all the time while the engine is running is this standard procedure.

Rob.

Re: Re: Re: NG TCR V8 Inspection

I also run a tc v8 200 bhp approx my blowers only come on in hot weather if standing in heavy traffic for a long while or sometimes when i put car in garage after a long run

Re: Re: Re: Re: NG TCR V8 Inspection

Hi Ned,
Why then would it need to be on all the time, just one of my concerns.
Rob.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: NG TCR V8 Inspection

Hi Rob
My blower only comes on when it is getting hot.
There should be a thermostatic switch which you can adjust to set the cut in point, normally attached to a small copper tube coming from the top hose. Having it on all the time would lengthen the warm up period and put unnecessary wear on the fan unit.
Maybe the themro switch is broken and a bypass wire has been fitted. The switches are easy to get from Kenlowe and the likes.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: NG TCR V8 Inspection

Hi Martin,
Thanks for all your help,I've offered the chap a price which I think is reasonable but have not heard anything back from him so I think I'll let that one go.
My price was conditional on the fan problem being fixed and the petrol guage working properly,I guess thats why I've not heard from him.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: NG TCR V8 Inspection

Hi Martin,
Can you tell me if your V8 is immune from gas emmission testing during an MOT?
thanks,
Regards Rob

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: NG TCR V8 Inspection

Yes, I believe so, no probes up my side pipes that I can remember. Did not even check headlamp aim, just checked they worked. Not that much to check on them really and the tester spent most of time talking about the car!
Car always gets interest wherever we go, some people even remember them from when they were a lad!
