Re: CAMP DISCO-TIME FOR A REVIVAL-AND A LIST

Syd,theres some truth in what you say,but the Pistols first played the 100 club in around May/June 76 and it wasnt rammed with Lacy goers.I know cause i was there, and there were only maybe 50 or so in the audience. And thats being generous. There was a lot of crossover in '76 between Soul and Punk, mainly fashion cos 99% of Punk music had little quality beside energy.
I know this will sound like Rowley Birkin but Did I ever tell you about the time i wore my new Rubber long sleeve roll neck top (saw Rotten wearing it at Walthamstow Assembly Hall in June, brought one the next week from SEX) to the Lacy?Do you remember the summer of '76? ******* Hot!Did you know that Bob Wheatley didnt believe in air conditioning?I near feckin died that night

Re: CAMP DISCO-TIME FOR A REVIVAL-AND A LIST

"Don't know if the last 2 entries have fully grabbed the point either. Surely, this logic says 'list every disco record released during these dates' and, voila, its gay disco.

I mean, be fair, 'Don't Make me Wait', for example, was borne out of the Paradise Garage, so if that don't count!"

At least you speak sense Webbo. Before the big disco sucks campaign by Chicago radio DJ Steve Dahl culminating in the burning of 100's of disco vinyl at Comisky park before a White Sox game. (July 12th 1979)And the subsequent abandonment of disco by most U.S. Radio. Every Dance tune was Gay Disco. After the Stonewall riots & the shift in Gay rights, the Rise of Gay life from Fire Island & the attempt to recreate the freedom at clubs like the Flamingo, The Gallery & Reade St in NY itself. Anything Disco is camp.. But what came after, when Gay NY reclaimed it's music from the world of commercialism is far more interesting. That's where the camp pickings are to be made.. Camp follower. Yes & you always will be..

Re: CAMP DISCO-TIME FOR A REVIVAL-AND A LIST

Re: CAMP DISCO-TIME FOR A REVIVAL-AND A LIST

Thought I would revive this thread after thumbing through a load of vinyl and finding these.........

PATRICK COWLEY & SYLVESTER - DO YOU WANNA FUNK
ALICIA BRIDGES - I LOVE THE NIGHTLIFE
KAREN YOUNG - HOT SHOT
CELI BEE & THE BUZZY BUNCH - SUPERMAN
SYLVESTER - DISCO HEAT
THE MIRACLES - AIN'T NOBODY STRAIGHT IN LA
ANDREA TRUE CONNECTION - MORE MORE MORE
PATRICK HERNANDEZ - BORN TO BE ALIVE
PENNY MCLEAN - LADY BUMP
ANITA WARD - RING MY BELL
PATRICK JUVET - I LOVE AMERICA
GINO SOCCIO - DANCER
DR BUZZARDS ORIG SAVANNAH BAND - CHER CHEZ LA FEMME
VICKI SUE ROBINSON - TURN THE BEAT AROUND
PETER BROWN - DO YOU WANNA GET FUNKY WITH ME

Blimey Gino Soccio / Dancer. Remember going to the Embassy Club near Bond street, walking in the club and seeing those gay dancers dressed as cowboys dancing in a line twerling lasoos in time to the music. Now you can't get more camp than that ? Or can you.
Does anybody really listen to this stuff anymore....

Re: CAMP DISCO-TIME FOR A REVIVAL-AND A LIST

Bona list,Tim and as high camp as the Himalyas....and lets also remember DISCO TEX and the SEX-O-LETTES-"GET DANCIN'" one of the first "out" turns in 1974.
Oh yes "you had to be there"....which makes us all over 50 (screeeeeeech!!!!) Oh lets have a revival its time we "hustled" again.

Re: CAMP DISCO-TIME FOR A REVIVAL-AND A LIST

Re: CAMP DISCO-TIME FOR A REVIVAL-AND A LIST

Maxime, that would be Louises, about three doors up from Broadwick Street on the west side of Poland Street.Used to stroll down there from the 100 Club gigs. All I can remember is the dancefloor downstairs, and borrowing 80p off Malcolm McLaren for the fare home to Chadwell Heath.Never did pay him back :-)

Re: CAMP DISCO-TIME FOR A REVIVAL-AND A LIST
